The Toledo NAPW Chapter met for dinner Bob Evan?s Restaurant, Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio on August 17th, 2011. Bob Evan?s Restaurant is a franchise that specializes in farm-fresh flavors that are delicious for the whole family. The restaurant on Monroe Street has been recently renovated and now includes a full-service bakery that is full of delectable treats for tempting any sweet tooth in the greater Toledo area.
Chapter President Shirley Pollman opened the meeting with a welcome and an introduction of the upcoming meeting topics.

Mary Sumrow of Talk Fusion has spent 51 years in the church ministry. She retired six and a half years ago. Mary Sumrow retired from Tarta as a city bus driver with the honor of being the first female to hold the top position, the first African-American to hold the top position and the last Community Traction, a former transit company, driver who was still driving the city bus. She receives enormous pleasure being a former minister?s wife, being able to travel, being able to work with senior citizens and children, and being able to participate in multilevel marketing ventures. Mary is currently involved with Talk Fusion, a company that offers video email services, Prepaid Legal Services, and LIMU wellness product services.
Carolyn Matteo has started two D/B/A ventures this year. Carolyn started a pharmacist consulting company, CuradoraHerida Healthcare Services, and Ravynword?s Sanctuary, a photography service. Carolyn graduated from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy and has practiced pharmacy for over nine years in a variety of settings including pediatrics and geriatrics. Curadora and herida are Spanish words and can be translated as ?wounded healer?. While pharmacy is her occupation, photography and writing are dual passions for Carolyn. Carolyn believes strongly in the healing powers of photography and word.
Shirley Pollman shared how serendipity, a granddaughter?s belief in grandma, love of chocolate, and faith in God led to her entrepreneurship. Her business is Pause?for Chocolate. Shirley is the proud chocolatier and operates her business with a partner in Mayfield Square in Sylvania, Ohio. She has helped raised, with a supportive husband, three daughters and two granddaughters. She is immensely proud and enthusiastic of her new role as Chapter President of the Toledo NAPW chapter.
Carolyn Matteo volunteered to be the following chapter officers: the historian/photographer and the secretary. She also volunteered to head the Charities/Fundraisers committee.
Mary Sumrow volunteered to be head the Volunteer/Membership committee. She also volunteered the Vice President if no else volunteers to take that office.
All three members agreed that a mission statement for the chapter needs to be developed ASAP. The Chapter will continue to meet twice a month on Wednesdays until a more sizable stable number of members are available to meet.
The Toledo NAPW Chapter held an additional monthly meeting on August 31st from 7 to 9pm at Bob Evan?s Restaurant on Monroe Street.

Last meeting minutes were read and approved. Mary Sumrow accepted the position as Chapter Vice President.
?We decided to use the national organization?s mission statement for the chapter?s statement,? Shirley said. ?Our mission is to provide the most exclusive and advanced forum where professional women can interact, exchange ideas, educate, network and empower.?
The chapter agreed to meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday starting in October. Mary shared her experiences of attending the business meetings at a local bank, Huntington. Shirley Pollman mentioned that her Star12 meeting will be coming up soon and that she will keep us posted. Carolyn mentioned that she will be going out of town for another women?s group called ?Women Entrepreneurs of America?. Also, that she banks at Key Bank who is very pivotal in supporting women?s banking. Carolyn promised to bring in more information about both of the issues she raised. The group spoke briefly about supporting the Columbus, Ohio chapter in their Sept 22nd event if our schedules permitted. Shirley brought in samples of her chocolates and her partner?s baked goods to sample. The next meeting was scheduled for September 14th from 7:00 to 9:00pm at the Monroe Street Bob Evans.
